Matsuri Shanghai 2014Identity
I was approached by a good friend to help with some logo and identity work for a Japanese cultural event planned for the Cool Docks in Shanghai in September 2014. The event called Matsuri (祭り) which literally means festival in Japanese was conceived to give Shanghai locals a taste of Japanese culture through traditional song and dance, food, games and competitions which are present in typical Matsuri all over Japan.
The logo went through several revisions mainly to accommodate Chinese partners as initially it was thought to be too aggressive to have a logo in either black or red. The final design approved was a simplified visual of Sakura petals. The 5 petals were to signify the core values of the event; sharing, learning, co-operation, culture and fun.4
